Most Excellent Find!

Here's a movie worth watching, starring the late George Carling as Rufus...

Watch the movie HERE (Excellent!)

Keeping Time...

The countdown is on for Motörmarch! Motörhead is ringing in '09 by playing at the Desert Rock Festival in Dubai, on March 6th. According to their website, the next Motörhead date is not only until April 10th in Buenos Aires…however, rumour has it there might be some shows before the Ace of Spades flies to Buenos Aires, as well as more South American dates yet to be confirmed. More dates were announced Tuesday, though most of them are in the UK. Check the band's website for more.

Mayhem line-up has been announced, and this year it includes shredders the size of Slayer and Cannibal Corpse, and one of Old Scratch’s finest, Marilyn Manson. According to Guitar World,

“The second annual Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival will feature some of rock’s heaviest bands: the main stage will see Marilyn Manson and Slayer joined by BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE and a special guest that will be announced in the coming weeks; the Jägermeister stage will feature TRIVIUM, ALL THAT REMAINS, GOD FORBID and the Jägermeister Battle of the Bands winner. The Hot Topic stage will feature extreme metal bands CANNIBAL CORPSE, JOB FOR A COWBOY, BEHEMOTH, BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and WHITECHAPEL…”

Behemoth and Cannibal Corpse in one place…Heavy or what?

\m/

Speaking of The Corpse, they started touring Europe today with Children of Bodom on their Europe Blooddrunk Crawl. And to make it even better, check this out.

More Meganews about their forthcoming album! Dave posted Wednesday hinting that James and Chris are almost done laying down their parts on the final songs for the new album. At this rate it is almost certain that Megadeth will be able to finish all the recording before they leave for Priest Feast, and even more likely for us to get a new album+tour for the summer. Check out the audio interview with Dave Mustaine for MetalHammer.co.uk HERE.

Also from the Megadeth camp, news will be coming in the following weeks regarding this year’s Gigantour line-up and dates…however, as of today nothing has been announced yet.

Emppu Vuorinen (Nightwish) will be touring throughout February with Brother Firetribe before joining Nightwish in March for the fourth and final leg of the Dark Passion Play Tour. Starting Monday Feb 1st Brother Firetribe will be supporting Pain on their European tour. Dates are announced both on Nightwish’s and BFT’s website.

Oh, and don’t forget (for those in the area) that Stratovarius has 5 dates coming up, an excellent chance to meet Matias, their newest member.

And this week’s What The Eff’s

Keeping Time...

The Hate Crew has announced 2009 North American dates (yessss!). Bodom will be joining Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying, God Forbid and Municipal Waste. Tour starts on April 1st in Phoenix AZ and will work its way up the American West Coast into Canada, eventually heading back to the US to finish the tour in May. Check the website for further details, all the dates are listed.

Alexi Laiho has also been sightseeing around…he was at the NAMM Expo in Anaheim this weekend signing autographs and meeting fans. NAMM provided a great chance to fans to meet and greet heroes, and everyone was there!

On other news (slightly) Megadeth has officially finished recording the drums for their upcoming record. Shawn Drover posted on the Megaforums stating that he had JUST finished the drum tracks for the album and was on his way home. Now, lets jump on the wayback machine and recall that last week Chris Broderick posted on the Megadeth forums mentioning that he was going to be starting the guitar tracks this week. Ok, wayback machine aside, the band is about 25% done recording their upcoming album, and Dave mentioned on the website that he’d like to have the recording done before the band leaves for Priest Feast. Keep your eyes peeled for Megadeth’s twelfth studio album, and the first featuring Chris Broderick on guitars, hopefully coming to a store near you sometime in the spring of this year.

Megadeth was also spotted at NAMM, Shawn and Dave were at the event signing autographs and meeting fans.

Rush has announced the release of the third volume of their compilation series. You can find out the track list on their website, or if you cant hold it till its out, then pre-order it HERE!

Here’s some interesting bedtime reading for this week.

A Lesson With Randy Rhoads (now, who wouldn’t want one of these?!)
The Doom Generation: The Art of Playing Heavy

Read up! And shred that like Watergate memos!

Guess who's back...

STRATOVARIUS IS BACK! Old news (kind of) however yesterday NEW DATES were announced on their website. The band has announced that they will be touring England, Scotland and Ireland to introduce the newest member Matias Kupiainen on guitars. Check the band’s website for dates and venues as the ‘tour’ will only be 5 days long (yes, five, 5, cinco!) and starts on May 15th in Wolverhampton, England.

if you're still trying to place Matias, HERE is an interesting read...oh, and of course, a nice vid too!

7 Countries. 3 Continents. 1 Tribe

Global Metal is a new Heavy Metal Documentary by Canadian anthropologist and film maker Sam Dunn. Name sounds familiar? he's the same guy from Headbanger's Journey and Flight 666

Another Heavy Metal film worth checking out is Heavy Metal in Baghdad.

This is your last boarding call!

...All passengers for Flight 666 please prepare to board.

This film is going to be unreal! i had the chance to briefly talk with Sam Dunn when The Beast last set hooves in Toronto, on March 16th/08 and he was very excited about the prospect... I can't wait for this one.

Release date is set for April of this year, more info HERE

I'm not a number! I'm a free man!

...now he is.

Actor Patrick McGoohan has passed away at the age of 80. If you are wondering "what does this have to do with anything?" Mr. McGoohan co-created and starred as Number 6 on a British TV series called "The Prisioner". the show aired in the 60's and 70's

ok... and?

well... Adrian Smith and Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) wrote a song for their 1982 Number of The Beast album

the song? one of those GREAT songs by a GREAT band that for one reason or another wasnt as big as their other ones.

*By the way, notice how Adrian and Dave are both using a Destroyer/Explorer kind of guitar, instead of the usual 'Special' Strats, or Adrian's SG and LesPaul(look up the story on that one!)

SRV's Last Gig

Doing my rounds today I found THIS on Guitar World Mag, way worth the read!

ok, now... watch this

yeah... at first i was like "yeah kid, you hang out too much with dad" but then I saw THESE OTHER VIDEOS.

Ignoring the fact that his Strat looks like SRV's (havent found the specs to know if its a sig series)...the first thing that came to mind (especially after watching his live vids) is that this kid IS SRV back in the flesh... you tell me

aaand...one for the road! (this one is my all -time fav)

don't forget to tune in Monday night!

Keeping Time...

Things are mega busy at the Megadeth camp, with recording well underway for their upcoming album, no name as of yet—at least none I could find. On January 6th Dave Mustaine stated on the band’s website that they were starting to record the drums for their upcoming album. This past Tuesday (Jan 14th) Chris Broderick posted on the band’s website stating that he was going to be starting to record rhythm tracks later that day, now that “Shawn is finishing up the last few songs” he adds. Dave Mustaine stated on the band’s website on December 18th of last year that so far they had nine songs down, and about 16 song ideas, however, according to Mustaine, he is only signed for 12 tracks, these include 11 for the ‘domestic’ market and the usual Japan bonus track.

The Priest has been busy these days as well gearing up for the upcoming Priest Feast Tour. Mind you, The Priest finished a world tour in mid November of last year. This time Priest Feast features special guests (are you ready?) Megadeth! Wait, and it gets better… also appearing Testament! I guess the people able to make the October 2008 Dates in Mexico got a sneak peek at what’s coming starting this February in Dublin. And don’t get your hopes up, as Priest Feast will be rolling through Europe only…(so far?)

Lemmy Kilmister is also out and about—alas, no Motorhead—but with The Head Cat. The band has five West Coast dates throughout January. February seems to be off (and for us to prepare) and brace for Motormarch! Dates for The Head Cat and Motorhead are posted on Motorhead’s website, imotorhead.com. By this point some of you might be thinking ‘Christmas come early!’ and possibly so, but it gets better! (again, depending on your taste)

The sour first

Metallica will be touring this summer (for a change!) behind their new album Death Magnetic. The Metallicats are ploughing through the east coast, having played in Boston last night, next date is Chicago on the 26th Tickets might still be available…summer dates have also been announced, though all are apparently (!) sold out. For more visit the band’s website.

The Beast has announced dates for a third leg of their world tour. Taking the airways less traveled, EdForce One will be making appearances in Asia, Central and South America… no North American dates yet. For more info, you can always visit the band’s website

**Other acts currently on the road include (but are not limited to!)

Children of Bodom! The Crew has some European Blooddrunk Dates up on their website, Bodom kicks off their Blooddrunk Crawl with a show on the 30th of January in Berlin. And as you probably have it figured out… check their website for details.

Brother Firetribe, the side project of Nightwish’s guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, has announced 18 European dates joining PAIN on their ‘European Cynic Campaign’, the dates are all listed on Nightwish’s Website.

Speaking of Nightwish, the band has dates listed starting in March, for the fourth and final leg of their Dark Passion Play Tour. The band has announced some North American dates, however these are mostly cancelled shows from the previous tour legs. To check dates and venues check the band’s website.
