Summer Isn’t So Without An Iron Maiden Tour

The Final Frontier tour kick-started last night in Dallas and the videos are starting to come in (way to go Internet!)

Tuesday night Steve and Janick were on Rockline with Bob Coburn where amongst other tour-related stuff Steve reiterated that Eddie “has had some changes” and is “much scarier now.” He also briefly mentioned the band will visit Mexico in September, could this mean further Latin American dates? Wait and salivate. The interview is available below.

As previously mentioned, audience videos are starting to surface on YouTube bringing the first glimpses of Eddie’s make over. It is also nice to see a list of newer material again:

01. The Wicker Man
02. The Ghost Of The Navigator
03. Brighter Than A Thousand Suns
04. El Dorado
05. Paschendale
06. The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg
07. These Colours Don't Run
08. Blood Brothers
09. Wildest Dreams
10. No More Lies
11. Brave New World
12. Fear Of The Dark
13. Iron Maiden

Encore:

14. The Number Of the Beast
15. Hallowed Be Thy Name
16. Running Free

More Nazi-rizona

Moby played to a sold out crowd in Bogotá, Colombia last night [Pictures HERE] And this morning he posted the following statement in his blog:

"many people have asked me what i think about the anti-immigration law that recently passed in arizona. and, to be honest, i think it's a disgusting piece of legislation. it's american politics at its worst, as the arizona anti-immigrant law is both racist and fascist. i know that 'fascist' is an over-used term among progressives to describe legislation with which they disagree, but how else do you describe a law that compels the police to check the papers of people who look like they might be illegal?

it's a racist law, and it's an awful law, and it makes me ashamed of my country. america is a country of immigrants. almost every citizen of the united states either is an immigrant or is the offspring of immigrants. immigration is what has traditionally made america great, it's what enables america to change and remain dynamic, and it's what gives america it's eclecticism and diversity. but there are always old, white, right wing, republicans who want america to be white only.

that old, white, racist, republican part of america is the worst part of the united states, and the part of the united states of which i'm most ashamed. i'm ashamed of the wall being built between mexico and the united states. i'm ashamed of the anti-immigrant law that was passed in mexico. i'm ashamed of any americans who want to change or ignore history and pretend that america is not (and has not always been) a country of and for immigrants. for the american dream to exist at all it has to exist for all. the american dream is one of democracy, freedom of belief, and freedom of expression, and it's at it's best when it's applied without hesitation or restriction. when the american dream is applied selectively based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, or belief is when the american dream is denigrated and compromised, sometimes beyond all recognition."

It will be interesting to see if more artists rise up to speak against the nonsense of Arizona SB1070, as well as the effect that this will have on the American people and the Obama administration.

This is not the first time Gov. Janice Kay Brewer signs a controversial bill into state law during her short term in office. She is also infamous for signing Bill SB 1113, which allows citizens 21 years of age and older to CARRY GUNS INTO BARS (!!) making Arizona the 41st state to allow guns in businesses that serve alcohol. She also signed Bill 1108, which allows citizens in the state of Arizona to carry a concealed weapon WITHOUT A PERMIT. Gov. Brewer has also considerably reduced the benefits available to state employees in a same-sex relationship, affecting about 750 state workers and their families.

Way to go Janice Kay, just when your country's worldwide perception was improving you come to ruin it.

MegadetH Thrashes Through Latin America

MegadetH has embarked on their 2010 Latin American tour. The band has already made their way through Argentina and Chile, and was forced to cancel their Ecuador date due to logistics.

As is sadly customary amongst Latin American promoters and fans, numerous rumours had been spread regarding the 'secret' cancellation of the Quito date. Said rumours eventually reached Mustaine prompting a statement in which he called the rumours "the biggest mountain of horse manure," assuring Ecuadorian fans that the band was still scheduled to play there and that there was no cancellation coming. Mustaine quickly pointed at "idiots who spread rumors about us cancelling shows," albeit no names were mentioned. However, much to the dismay of Ecuadorian fans, the band announced today that "due to logistical problems with getting Megadeth’s gear into Ecuador" the band was forced to 'postpone' the May 4th date in Quito, the future date thus-far is set to the band's "next trip to South America" which is not really postponing much but a cancellation instead.

This is not the first time that issues regarding rumours and unreliable 'logistics' arise during this tour. Sources close to DPR have indicated that a similar instance forced the cancellation of a scheduled Bogotá date originally set for May 8th.

Ok, so enough with the bad and in with the good! As mentioned above, the band has made their way through Argentina and Chile, and as fans around the world were able to see on the That One Night DVD, the Argentinian crowds are pretty intense -– Football and Metal are things you just don't mess around with over there, and this time around is no different. During the band's visit to Argentina they performed a short acoustic set during 95.9's 'Cual Es?' show. A complete video of the set is available HERE.

Thanks to South American fans and YouTube we've been able to get some fresh updates on what the shows have been like during this tour, and naturally here are some of the best highlights!

MegadetH is schedule to play in Lima tomorrow night, and continue to Venezuela, Costa Rica, Guatemala and El Salvador. for official dates check The Killing Road.

MAD Dates!

A couple of days ago we talked about the upcoming BlackDiamondSkye tour featuring Alice in Chains, Mastodon and Deftones. Today the first batch of dates was announced and (yay for us!) they have included two Canadian dates thus far, Toronto and Vancouver.

The official site was offline as of yesterday, as was their Facebook and Twitter accounts, however today they have been activated and updated with dates and info. Alice's rep, David "Beno" Benveniste has been quoted saying "This is the poster kids will want to have on their walls, and ten years from now people will look back at this as a timeless and important tour," and he is not mistaken! Alice's comeback has been very well received by fans everywhere, and their new album is certainly a step forward.

More dates and info will be added on as it becomes official and available, so be sure to follow them on Facebook, Twitter or the tour's official site.

And the Blood (errr... Reviews?) Keeps Flowing

Alice Cooper live Toronto, 2004Image by markcoatsworth via Flickr

The Man has posted a review of the Edmonton show saying Alice sucked, which for some reason contradicts the earlier one posted by another QMI writer, in which he unkindly chronicles the Winnipeg show and isn't very favourable towards Rob's set. It seems neither is remotely interested in either act, and the only fact they can agree on is that the show sucked, which ultimately begs the question: Why did they attend then?

At any rate, the Gruesome Twosome still have enough guillotine and guts to gore'round and will be visiting Vancouver before they head south for the American leg of the tour. More dates have been added, including one more Canadian date in Toronto.

APRIL
26 Winnipeg, MB MTS Centre
27 Saskatoon, SK Credit Union
28 Edmonton, AB Rexall Place
29 Calgary, AB Corral

MAY
1 Vancouver, BC Pacific Coliseum
2 Kennewick, WA Toyota Center
4 Casper, WY Casper Events Center
7 Springfield, MO Shrine Mosque
9 Park City, KS Hartman Arena
11 Rochester, MN Mayo Civic Center
12 Duluth, MN Duluth Entertainment Convention Center Arena
15 Kearney, NE Viaero Event Center
18 Knoxville, TN Knoxville Civic Coliseum
19 Charlotte, NC Uptown Ampitheater
21 Toronto, Canada Molson Ampitheater
22 Lewiston, NY Artpark

Due to the lack of videos around I'm assuming security has been POOPERS and not allowing people to film... I would like to know who is behind this silly thing, artist or venue? whoever it is they are just wrecking it for those of us who can't go check it out... I mean, will they REALLY lose money for allowing shitty handicam videos to be posted? geez guys, come on... if anything you'd entice more fans to come - isn't that what you want?

Be it as it may, let's all thank Justin for posting this one of the Edmonton show.

The Gruesome Road

So we've been talking HERE and THERE about the Gruesome Twosome Tour featuring Alice and Rob. As previously mentioned, the guys laid waste to Winnipeg and Saskatoon and are in Edmonton tonight and Calgary tomorrow. Rob has posted a tour update with a handful of pics from the Saskatoon show and after.

And in case anyone ever wondered what it's like to drive through Western Canada at night... well, you've got Rob to thank for bringing you this:

Gruesomly Awesome!

A while back we talked about the Gruesome Twosome Tour featuring Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper.

The GT kicked of last night in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada at the MTS centre and will tour most of the Northern-Western United States and Canada. Rob posted some backstage photos at about noon yesterday showing the crew getting the venue and stage ready for the show. A show review was also posted this morning, though it wasn't very kind to Rob's set.

MAD Tour In The Horizon

And we're not kidding! A teaser trailer released on 4:20 suggests an upcoming summer tour featuring none other than Mastodon, Alice in Chains and Deftones. Nothing has been officially released thus far, however info is scheduled to be public on Thursday night (April 29th 6pm EST) according to a countdown clock on the tour's website, HERE. For now we're going to have to be contempt with this:

The Final Frontier

As reported earlier this week, an announcement was scheduled to be made today at 15:00EST through Iron Maiden's official website, and after some "404's" at around 3:04 the press release finally loaded. Iron Maiden and (very) special guests Dream Theatre are touring North America between 9th June and 20th July of this year. This announcement follows a post made by Kevin Sherley on 12th February via his webdiary, stating that though work on the album is not done “the band portion is complete and in the can, so to speak”.

The tour—by the name of ‘The Final Frontier’—will kick off at the Superpages.com Centre in Dallas, TX and will cover the South Western U.S, some of the West Coast, as well as most of Canada. These dates are added to previously announced summer dates across Europe, such as the recently confirmed Sonisphere shows. For a complete (and updated) list of dates confirmed check the band’s website.

No announcement has been made regarding whether the tour is named after the album, scheduled to be released in September, or about the return of EdForce One to ferry the band for the duration of the tour that includes a stop in Toronto at The Molson Amphitheatre on 3rd July.

It is worth noting that Megadeth, Slayer and Testament are scheduled to play at the same venue only 26 days later.

Watch Yerr Head!

Heads will roll this coming spring with the Gruesome Twosome Tour featuring none other than Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie. (WHAT!!!) That's right! Rob Zombie had everyone scratching their heads after he tweeted last night about an 'important announcement' due out today, and it already has people talking, even The Man picked up on it! (and also giving it a funny headline)

Shows announced thus far span all of Western Canada and stops in the Northwestern United States, dates are as follow:

Apr. 26 - Winnipeg, MB - MTS Centre
Apr. 27 - Saskatoon, SK - Credit Union
Apr. 28 - Edmonton, AB- Rexall Place
Apr. 29 - Calgary, AB - Corral
May 01 - Vancouver, BC - Pacific Coliseum
May 02 - Kennewick, WA - Toyota Center
May 04 - Casper, WY - Casper Events Center

With more dates in the works, tickets will go on sale TOMORROW. (!!)

And speaking of Alice Cooper, a New York Times report out today proves that Alice Cooper is one hell of a nice guy, after he has helped a German consumer electronic company boost their sales considerably following the release of three T.V adds featuring Alice as the pitch guy. This isn't the first time we see Alice trying to sell us stuff, if you live in North America you might recall the Staples add where Alice is shopping for school supplies (you can check the Staples add HERE if you need a refresher).

The thing about the NYT note that i thought rather uncalled for was the headline:
Aging Rocker Turns Pitchman in Germany
Gee... How unpolite.

Oh and more Alice! have a look HERE ...

Metallica Thrashes Through Latin America

Metallica has started the South American leg of their Word Magnetic Tour setting attendance records in Lima, and selling out Santiago earlier this week. The Santiago gig also made headlines because of clashes between police and unruly fans trying to get into the show, some with no tickets, and upset over misinformation and alledged ticket fraud on part of the promotors. By the time the mayhem outside the venue was under control Santiago Riot Police had 120 fans in cuffs, with one of their own injured. This isnt the first time Metallica is at the centre of a riot, as was the case in '96 during their first visit to Thailand, causing all similar shows to be banned thereafter.

The Santiago show was not only notorious for the restless crowd, but also because a very special fan was in attendance... Grandma Graciela went to see Metallica play.

Meanwhile, Lars Ulrich has been quoted saying that the next Metallica album won't be coming around for another year and a half at least, similar to what Robert Trujillo declared on a similar interview late last year.

Metallica was took a break from the studio for six years between Re-Load and St.Anger, only releasing live material on CD and DVD. Lars' words come hinting what many are rumouring already about... we might be in for another six years of re-issues, started with the Francais Por Une Nuit CD/DVD, and now being followed up by Orgullo, Pasion y Gloria: Tres Noches En La Ciudad de Mexico, a similar CD/DVD recorded over the band's 3 night stay in Mexico City. Sources close to the band report that a further release is on the works chronicling the band's Canadian tour.

Carnage Tour POSTPONED (again)

It is finnaly official. Carnage is being postponed again to allow for Tom’s back to heal from his upcoming surgery. An announcement was initially seen on Slayer's website on Jan 7, and posted on MegadetH's later that day, however Live Nation, promoters of the tour in the U.S and Canada broke it to the news the following Monday.

This announcement comes as no surprise to many, following the first announcement made by Slayer in November canceling their appearance on Jimmy Kimmel and postponing Carnage due to Tom's back injury. Slayer later announced rescheduled dates along with new Canadian dates for starting off in January, London, ON being one.

I personally wish and hope that Tom heals. Tom, espero que tu espalda recupere en su totalidad y puedas venir a Canada!

I *shamelessly* should add that I have a pair of floor tickets for the original Friday 13th show in Toronto (what better date!) which became even BETTER after Testament joined the bill! I just (really) wish Tom heals, so we dont need to wait until the next Friday 13th and have Testament go on tour elsewhere.

More HERE and HERE

**

Expect upcoming report+pics (and maybe even video?) from John Mayer in Toronto and G n'R in London, providing they are not cancelled or postponed.
